Synopsis
The world is engulfed in mass delusion, and only Bill Potts sees the truth. When even the Doctor fights on the wrong side, Bill will have to convince the lord of the time that humanity is in mortal danger. And if you fail to do this, she just has to kill her best friend [2] .
Story
Control over the Earth is captured by the Monks. Now it seems to everyone that they have helped the development of mankind for millions of years. However, Bill and few others know the truth: Monks appeared on the planet only six months ago. Those who hold this version are imprisoned on charges of a “crime of memory." The doctor promotes the views of the Monks in television broadcasts.
Bill tries not to forget what really happened, and this is helped by imaginary conversations with her long-dead mother, whose appearance she presents from the photographs that the Doctor gave her. Nardol, who is also aware of what is happening, discovers Bill's whereabouts, and together they manage to find a prison ship where, according to information, the Doctors are held captive. At the meeting, the time lord informs his companion that he voluntarily works for the Monks, believing that humanity is doomed without their instructions. Realizing the hopelessness of the situation, Bill shoots the Doctor with a pistol, which is why he begins to regenerate, but soon stops the process. The doctor and Nardol, along with the crew of the ship, played a show to make sure that Bill did not fall under the influence of the Monks and was not sent to expose them.
After that, the Doctor decides to turn to Missy for help, and together with Bill they go to their university, where the Repository is located. Missy, who has met Monks in the past, confirms that the aliens are in control by transmitting a signal containing a false story through the numerous statues they built around the planet. The signal is activated by means of a psychic connection established with the person who initially gave his “consent”. At one time, Missy managed to defeat the Monks, killing such a person. It is understood that Bill must perish, because it was she who agreed to the invasion.
The doctor believes that there is another way, and together with Bill, Nardol and his associates, they decide to penetrate the Monks' pyramid in London so that he can crack the signal broadcast with his mind, thereby destroying the psychic connection. In the central room of the building, the Doctor finds the Monk who controls the broadcast process and attempts to connect his mind with him, but he manages to defeat the time lord. Then Bill, despite the protests of the Doctor, decides to sacrifice himself and form a connection between his mind and the Monk. The signal transmitted by the alien replaces the images of mother Bill, as they are a powerful and expensive memory for the girl’s mind. Humanity comes to itself from the deception of the Monks and rebels against the conquerors. Doctor, Bill, and Nardol watch as aliens leave Earth. After this, Doctor and Bill find out that most people do not remember the Monks. At the visit of the Doctor to the Vault, Missy expresses remorse about those whom she killed.
