Andrei Valterovich Grinev (born July 4, 1960 ) is a Soviet and Russian historian, one of the largest specialists in the history and ethnography of Russian America . Doctor of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor. Professor of the Department of History of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University of Peter the Great . Laureate of the prize named after N.I. Kareev (2003).

Biography
In 1983 he graduated from the historical and philological faculty of Altai State University , in 1986 - full-time graduate school of the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences .
In 1987 he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of historical sciences on the topic "Tlingit Indians in the period of Russian America (1741-1867)" (07.00.07 - ethnography) [1] .
In 2000 he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences on the topic “Russian colonization of Alaska: its course, nature and results” (specialty 07.00.02 - Russian history) [2] .
He worked at the SPbSPU at the departments of sociology and law, cultural studies and sociology, then at the department of history.
In December 2018, he was elected Chairman of the Russian Association of American Anthropologists-Americanists.
