Biography
Biographical data on the life of St. John practically did not survive. An instructive parable about humility and obedience is associated with it. According to the Kiev-Pechersk Paterik , John was the younger brother of Theophilos, also a monk of the Pechersk Monastery.
When John died, he was buried in a cave in the upper place, where Theophilus should be buried as the eldest. When Theophilus saw this, he began to rebuke Mark the Undertaker for putting the deceased in his place. The Monk Mark ordered the dead John to rise and cross to a lower place. Such a miracle with his brother led Theophilus to repent for his pride.
The relics of St. John rest in the Near Caves, next to his elder brother.
The memory of John the God-pleasing is celebrated on October 11 and January 11.
