Sapignala, Adriano

Born in a family of leading activists of the UNITA rebel movement. Adriano Sapignala's father is Jose Samuel Sivala , one of the founders of UNITA and the first commander of the rebel armed forces. Mother - Elena Bonguela Abel , head of the UNITA women's organization ^[1] .

A few years after the birth of Adriano, his father found himself in a temporary disgrace, as he was suspected of conspiring against the leader of UNIT, Jonas Savimbi . These suspicions were not substantiated. However, Adriano was taken into custody of Savimbi and placed in a boarding school at a rebel base, along with the children of the leader of UNITA. Subsequently, his adopted father was an officer of UNITA ^[2] . Sapignal’s surname comes from the mother’s maiden name.

In 1987 - 1991 Adriano Sapignala was a member of the UNITA children's organization - Alvorada . Then he was an activist of the youth organization UNITA - JURA and student - UREAL . He was distinguished by loyalty to the ideology of the movement and personal devotion to Savimbi. He performed in the choir of his personal guard.

He graduated from high school in Bailundo , where the political center of UNITA was located. He studied at UNITA political courses led by Paulo Lucamba Gata . As a political functionary, he was sent to the north of Angola. He served as deputy provincial secretary of UNITA in Wizh . Then he was transferred by the head of JURA to Bengo , then to Andulo .

In 1999, Adriano Sapignala underwent military training at the UNITA training camp. He joined the rebel army brigade, named Ben Ben - in honor of the nephew of Jonas Savimbi Arlindo Pena . He commanded a motorized rifle unit, participated in the battles in Bie . He received the officer rank of captain and military pseudonym Didi .

At the beginning of 2000, Adriano Sapignala was transferred to the military intelligence service of UNITA. He controlled the regional intelligence, carried out the communication of brigade intelligence agencies with the General Staff of the armed forces of UNITA.

After the death of Jonas Savimbi on February 22, 2002, Adriano Sapignala hid in the jungle for some time along with a military intelligence group. Then he was legalized, arrived in Luanda , was discharged and became involved in legal politics.

Since 2002, Adriano Spinyala held various posts in the leadership of the legal party UNITA. He was engaged in political and organizational-mobilization issues. He was also one of the leaders of JURA.

In the leadership of the legal UNITA, Adriano Sapignala is an active supporter of the party’s chairman, Isayash Samakuwa . At the congress in 2011, Sapinyala, at the suggestion of Samakuwa, was introduced to the UNITA shadow cabinet. In 2013, Sapignala was appointed party secretary for public safety. Member of the Executive Secretariat of the Standing Committee of the Political Commission. De facto oversees the party security system. Adriano Sapignala is considered the leading representative of the new generation of party leaders, on whom Isaiash Samakuva makes a political bet.

In 2016, Adriano Sapignala was appointed secretary of the provincial organization UNITA in Quando-Cubango ^[3] . This appointment was regarded in the context of far-reaching political calculations on the eve of the 2017 elections. At the same time, Sapinyal’s position in the party hierarchy and in the environment of Samakuwa was strengthened ^[4] .
