The building occupies an accentuated corner location at the intersection of Soborny Prospekt and Troitskaya Street (previously Lenin Ave. and Chekistov St.). The apartment building was built in 1901 for a hereditary citizen, a merchant of the first guild Ya. I. Leshchinsky (Lyashchinsky [2] ), who owned five buildings in Aleksandrovsk [3] . This was the first three-story apartment building in Aleksandrovsk. In 1905, during the Jewish pogroms, the house was burned [4] . The house was completely restored in 1908 according to the original design. According to old photographs, the nippers of both street facades were decorated with nowadays extant column clocks, the balconies of the main facade looked like bay windows , the extreme side hole on the ground floor of the facade was on Ul. Trinity functioned as a through passage into the courtyard (it was later laid) [5] .

Commercial establishments were opened on the lower floors, among which was the biographer ( cinema ) of N. Pulavsky , the hairdresser of Naum Tsfasman - the father of jazzman Alexander Tsfasman [6] . The apartments in the upper floors were for rent. In one of them, at the end of 1913 - the beginning of 1914, Leonid Utesov began a life together with his future wife Elena [7] [8] .

In 1917-1918, the first Alexander Soviet of Workers 'and Soldiers' Deputies was located in the house. Under the leadership of the Council, the police were disarmed in Aleksandrovsk, an 8-hour working day was introduced, and measures were taken to democratize public life.

Since June 1917, the Council published the newspaper "Unity", from 10.21.1917 - the newspaper "Alexander Thought", whose editors worked in this house. 10/10/1917 as a result of re-election, the Bolsheviks received about half of the seats in the councils. On the initiative of the Bolsheviks 12/12/1917, a military revolutionary committee was created, which led an armed uprising in Aleksandrovsk. After the establishment of Soviet power in the city on January 2, 1918, re-elections to the Soviets took place on January 20, as a result of which the Bolsheviks headed by T. Mikhelovich came to leadership.

The activities of the Council were interrupted in early April 1918. With the approach of the Austro-German forces, the Council was forced to evacuate from Alexandrovsk. In 1917-1918, the Alexander Committee of the RSDLP (b), the Alexander Worker University, and the Palace of Labor in 1920 worked in this house [5] .

On the ground floor of the building there are shops, among which the Squirrel confectionery was especially famous. The second and third floors of the house in Soviet times were given for housing to the Cossacks [9] .

In 2016, an extension to the house from the square to them. T. G. Shevchenko was decorated with the mural "The Wizard" [10] .

The beauty and popularity of the building is evidenced by the fact that out of about one and a half hundred famous postcards of old Aleksandrovsk, almost half show the image of the Leshchinsky house [11] .

In 2017, residents of the house turned to the media, announcing their intention to build a three-story hotel in the courtyard between two architectural monuments - the house of Leshchinsky and the former Leshchinsky synagogue [12] [13] .
