Hubert Alexander Minnis ( born Hubert Alexander Minnis , born 1954 [1] ) - Bahamian doctor and politician, Prime Minister of the Bahamas since May 2017. The leader of the Free National Movement , the current ruling party. He was first elected Member of Parliament in 2007. Replaced Hubert Ingraham as party leader after his defeat in the 2012 election. He was removed from the leadership in the party in December 2016, but regained his position in its leadership in April 2017 after a long internal party conflict. He became prime minister as a result of the victory of his party in the general election held on May 10, 2017. [3]

Early life, education, and the beginning of a political career
Minnis was born in Bein, New Providence. He was educated at elementary school, college, and he also attended the University of Minnesota.
After receiving his Ph.D. in medicine from the University of the West Indies in 1985, he returned to his homeland and began working as a doctor in a hospital, where he served as a consultant and head of the department of obstetrics and gynecology.
Minnis was president of the Bahamas Medical Association, a member of the Medical Council and an associate professor at the University of the West Indies for Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Personal life
Minnis is married to Patricia Benneby, as well as the father of three children. [four]
Fall and rise
Opposition Leader: 2012—2016
He worked as an opposition leader from 2012 to 2016. In December 2016, Loretta Butler-Turner became the official opposition leader.
2017 General Election
As the election approached, supported by Minnis, factionalists were routed [ what? ] . The party received 35 out of 39 seats.
