Biography

Born November 15, 1974 in the family of Norm and Pauline Maroni. At birth, the girl was diagnosed with cerebral palsy [2] . Susie has two brothers - Sean and Michael (her twin). At the age of 4, she began swimming.

In 1989, the athlete received the first major recognition - the 14-year-old Maroni took 3rd place in the national women's marathon ( English Australian Marathon Swimming Championship for Women ).

For three consecutive years, Maroni was awarded the Advance Australia Award, awarded to the young talents of the country.

On May 12, 1997, the 22-year-old Maroni became the first person to sail 180 km (110 miles) in the Strait of Florida, having made a swim from Cuba to the US coast. [3] [4]

She officially ended her sports career in 2003. [5]

Personal life

Has an illegitimate daughter Paris (born 2008) [6] . From her first marriage with Darren May there is a daughter Paris, born in 2010 [7] . Divorced in 2012. In November 2016, she remarried, for the former rugby player Perry Cross, paralyzed from the age of 19 due to a sports injury. [8]
