Drabadzi-drabada

According to the leader of the group, Lyavon Volsky, the initial idea was to record an album of Belarusian folk songs, but not to perform them as folk , but in some modern genre. Later Volsky fell into the hands of a collection of folk songs of European countries and he found it interesting to record an album of European folk songs performed in Belarusian ^[2] .

On November 29, 2010, in the studio of the Internet portal TUT.BY , the Krambambul group presented the majority of the songs from their upcoming album ^[3] in their hourly live performance. On December 19, presidential elections were held in Belarus , which ended with a protest rally and detentions. After some time, an unofficial “black list” of cultural figures appeared in the country, which included people who somehow expressed support for political prisoners. Of the musicians on the "list" were: Lyapis Trubetskoy , Palace , Krama , NRM , Neuro Dubel , Naka , Zmitser Voityushkevich and Krambambulya ^[4] . In this regard , the Krambambuli concert scheduled for March 17 at the Gostsi restaurant in Minsk was canceled. They said that the concert would not take place as the musicians became ill. “Maybe I'm not quite healthy on my head, like everything in this country. However, I am not complaining about my health and, on the contrary, I am in good vocal form, ”Lavon commented on this situation and on the day of the canceled concert he specially visited this restaurant ^[5] . At the same time, work on the new album was delayed, since Volsky decided to make a second disc, on which to record the same songs, but in the original language ^[6] .

The new album was released on December 27, 2011 in two versions: on one disc and on two. The first disc includes 12 folk European songs performed in Belarusian. The album contains songs of Croatia , France , Germany , Italy , Poland , Sweden , Slovakia , Ireland and Lithuania , as well as three Belarusian songs. On the second disc, these same songs performed in the original language. Shortly before the release of the album, the group presented a video clip for the first song "Geta Nya Vetraz" ^[7] . The concert presentation of the new album was supposed to take place on February 11 at the Minsk club “RE: Public”, but the concert was canceled ^[8] . Krambambuly moved the presentation to Vilnius , which was held in late April. One song together with Krambambuley was performed by the Lithuanian musician Andrius Mamontovas ^[9] .

The Irish folk song “ Whiskey in the Jar ” is widely known not only in Ireland, but also in the world. At various times, a large number of cover versions were recorded on it, including by groups such as Thin Lizzy and Metallica . According to Lyavon Volsky, the name of the album refers to this song. Its text contains the expression “dum a doo dum a da”, which cannot be translated in any way, even if the song is performed in English. It is believed that these words mean glasses knocking on each other. Thus, according to Lavon's version of “drabadzi-drabad”, this is a kind of Belarusian version of this expression (by analogy with “napiўsya ў drabadan”) ^[2] .

The album was well received by critics. On the site Experty.by, his average score is 8 out of 10. It was noted that the group is reaching a new level of development with this album. At the same time, the album was criticized for the abundance of guitars and too heavy a sound, which, according to some observers, does not correlate well with folk music ^[1] . At euroradio.fm, the album was called an attempt at cultural integration with Europe, through acquaintance with each other’s songs ^[10] .
