It was built by Peter I Mushat along with the Khotyn and Khmelev fortresses. She played a significant role in the defense of the Principality of Moldova. At the end of the XIV century, “Chechun” is included in the “ List of Russian cities near and far ” among the “Voloshsky” cities. [1] The fortress on Mount Tsetsino lasted until the second half of the 15th century , and then, apparently, it was destroyed. [2]

The remains of Chechun were discovered on Mount Tsetsino near the western outskirts of Chernivtsi. Back in 1908 , the ruins of a watchtower were first studied here. This stone structure with a diameter of 20 meters was dated to the XIV century.
