Publication History

The concept of Heroes for hire arose in Luke Cage's solo series called Luke Cage, Hero for Hire. As a Hiring Hero, Cage attempted to combine the ordinary ProBeno world of superheroes with the practice of private investigation. Although the name changed to Luke Cage, Power Man in issue No. 17, Cage continued his employment.

Originally Heroes for Hire, Inc. was a small business licensed by the state of New York that offered a full range of professional investigation and defense services. The Heroes for Hire belonged to Luke Cage and Daniel Rand. They had Park Avenue offices and two paid employees: Jenny Royce, group secretary and Jerin Hogarth, lawyer and group business representative. Heroes for hire will not accept tasks related to illegal activities.

Fictional Team Biography

Power Man and Iron Fist

His own series was canceled due to low sales, Iron Fist joined the cast of Luke Cage, Power Man, in a three-part storyline at # 48-50. The comedian's name has changed to Power Man and Iron Fist from # 50 and above. These two formed the new Heroes for Hire, Inc, founded by attorney Jerin Hogarth and staffed by administrative child prodigy Jenny Royce. Iron Fist also often appeared, supporting the characters Collin Wing and Misty Knight , although they never became official participants. This partnership continued until the final episode of the 125 series, in which Cage was accused of the apparent death of Iron Fist.

Heroes for Hire (1996)

In 1996, due to the Onslaught and Heroes Reborn storylines, the Marvel Universe experienced an energy vacuum after it was proposed to kill the Fantastic Four and Avengers . Following the status of Oracle Corporation, which Namor established on the pages of Namor, Jim Hammond ( “ Golden Age Man Torch ” ) and Danny Rand decided to create a new organization called“ Heroes for Hire. ”Iron Fist hired Luke Cage for this. Heroes for Hire debuted in 1997 with a core team consisting of Iron Fist, Cage and many hangers-on: Black Knight (Dane Wee Man) , a new White Tigress , Hercules, She-Hulk , Ant-Man (Scott Lang) , the original Human Torch and even Deadpool , where they are included in the book, although most of the cast was rotated at quarterback style hired for missions Heroes for Hire, written by John Ostrander and illustrated by Pascual Ferry, lasted 19 issues before it was canceled.

Heroes for Hire (2006)

The new Heroes for Hire series was developed as a spin-off of the 2006 Civil War storyline. The book was originally written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray (with artist Billy Tucci), who also wrote the Daughters of the Dragon mini-series starring Misty and Colleen. Many heroes and stories followed from this series in Heroes for Hire. Then the series passed into hands and was written by Zeb Wells, with artist Terry Pallo. The list of teams for the book is Colleen Wing , Misty Knight , the new Tarantula, Shan Chi, Hampug, Orka, Black Cat and Paladin, the last two join for money. They serve as executors of the Registration Act. After killing Goliath in the battle with the King Clone of Thor, they planned to capture Captain America .

Having learned the location of Captain America from Pisyu , the team (minus Orc and Tarantula) tracks him. While Misty and the team just want to talk and find a peaceful solution, the Paladin betrays them. The paladin shuts off the team by gas knockout and tries to capture Captain America. Shang Chi's martial arts training allowed him to hold his breath long enough to avoid exposure to gas. Shang Chi defeats the Paladin and switches his uniform from Captain America. When Sch.I.T. arrives, the Paladin is inadvertently taken into custody.

Soon after, Captain America and Heroes for hire will hit the road, and the anti-regs will abandon their now compromised base. Meanwhile, Heroes for Hire discover a group on the black market that has surgically implanted superhumans with the help of Skrull organs , which would endow those who had surgery with Skrull ability to change shape. Several of these Skrull villain hybrids drive Misty Knight's old foe out of Ricadonna’s prison. Ricadonna destroys the headquarters of the Heroes, sending an explosive package, and exposes blows to the entire team. The most noteworthy of them were insecticides (a cunning man sent to kill the Leader - the Leader neutralized him with the help of his killer bees ), the Dark Stalker (the old enemy of Shan-Chi sent him to kill - Shan-Chi quickly insulted him), and a gang of ninja, who attacked Tarantula when she was with her father. After they killed her father, Tarantula kills the whole gang. The team breaks up in search of Ricadonna - while the Misty Knight and Colin Wing try to shake Toddler for information, Hambleuk uses his flies to discover Ricadonna's base, as well as the fact that she somehow got superpowers.

The team also comes into conflict with Grindhouse [1] , the Leader, and encounters the Devil Dinosaur and the Moon Boy in the Wild. After these adventures, Heroes for hire became involved in the World Wonder Hulk , being captured on board the stone ship Hulk . The leader includes the group, but, in turn, indulges in the earth hive, which used it from the very beginning. Colleen and Tarantula are severely tortured, but the rest of the team saves them. Shan-Chi kills the Leader in order to avenge the torture of Tarantula and possibly out of mercy, because the Leader mutated into a grotesque monster and was in great pain. After that, the team splits, and the Paladin takes the Moon Boy for a reward for his capture. The Black Cat is trying to appeal to Paladin's good nature, but the Paladin pushes her away and says that she does not know him at all. Shang Chi leaves the group carrying the wounded Tarantula in his arms. Misty tries to calm Colin, who is still worried, trying to push her to the fact that the team can still go, but Colleen will not hear anything. Colleen claims that once the team sold their services as heroes, they sold the best part of themselves. Colleen leaves, leaving Misty alone, signaling the end of the team.

Heroes for Hire (2010)

In 2010, Marvel debuted with the new Heroes for Hire series. The book spins from the effects of the Shadowland storyline [2] . This time, the team works more like an organization, with rotating members, each hero in relation to the mission. Unlike previous incarnations, members work on benefits such as advice on committing crimes and backing up if necessary, and not for money [3] . Initially, the organization is controlled by the controlled mind of Misty Knight with a team that includes the Ghost Rider , Iron Fist , Moon Knight , Punisher , Black Widow , Misty Knight , Paladin, Falcon , Silver Sable and Electra . After Paladin and Iron Fist free Misty from mind control, the rest of the members recognize and lose faith in the organization. The paladin convinces Misty to restart the group from scratch with him and earn the respect of the superhero community [4] . The first to return to the group is Spider-Man [5] .

During the Spider-Island storyline, Heroes for hire are summoned by Jay John Jameson to help quarantine Manhattan after the outbreak that caused anyone who was bitten by genetically modified bugs to develop arachnid abilities. Heroes for hire ended the fight with arachnid versions of Hemistro, Cheshire Cat, Commanche, Shchitomordnik , Dontrell "Cockroach" Hamilton , Mr. Pisces, nightshade and Harpoon [6] .

Villains for Hire (2011)

In the new series, emerging from events from the end of Heroes for Hire, Misty Knight leads a new group of heroes with Black Panther , Silver Sable and Paladin. However, due to unknown circumstances, it forms a subgroup of villains, consisting of Bombs, crossfires, nightshade and Tiger shark [7] .

The villains' hiring team was led by Purple Man and Headhander, and includes the Avalanche, Death Stalker , Shocker and the Scourge. Purple Hire villains rose against Misty Knight's team [8] . The group was later joined by Bushmaster and Monster during their fight with the team of Misty Knight. “Tiger Shark” and “Bomb” leave Misty Knight when she receives the “Demon of Speed” and Lady Stilt-Man [9] . The Purple Man later sent Villains to Hire to attack Misty Knight's headquarters, some of which were hit by traps that Misty Knight set. During the battle, Lady Stilt-Man defects towards the Purple Man and such as the Bomb, Monkey Man and Tiger Shark also join the defect. Misty Knight reveals that she received the help of a Puppet Master who uses criminals on Misty Knight's side as part of the payback of the Puppet Master on Purple Man, and that the Scourge working for the Purple Man was actually an undercover Paladin [10] .

Mighty Avengers (2013)

During Infinity , Luke Cage is featured as the host of the new list of Heroes for hire, consisting of himself, the White Tiger and the Strong Man. The team breaks up after the departure of the White Tiger to Ultimate Spider-Man (the mind of Dr. Octavius in the body of Peter Parker) considered by a team of mercenaries after a fight with Plunder. The remnants of the group continue to form new Mighty Avengers during the Thanos invasion of Earth [11] .

Deadpool's "Heroes for Hire"

Eight months after the events of the Secret Wars plot that occurred during the All-New, All-Different Marvel event, Deadpool creates a new team of Heroes for hire. The list consists of Solo, Madcap, Clapperboard, Assassin Fool, Terror and Stingray. Matt Murdoch and Luke Cage showed a plan of lawsuit against Deadpool [12] . After the lawsuit passes, Deadpool renames his group of Heroes for hire in Deadpool's “Mercenaries for Money” [13] .

Disputes

The 2006 edition of Heroes for Hire was at the center of the debate about enhancing sexuality in the mainstream comic books, due to the fact that some considered explicit cover in the 13th edition of Heroes for Hire. The debate centered on what critics viewed as an inappropriate level of comic book cover sexuality for twelve or more years. [14] Marvel’s official response to the protest was to apologize if the cover “made a chord that it wasn’t intended to strike.” [15]
