English Football League Cup 2015/2016 ( Eng. 2015–16 Football League Cup ) is the 56th Football League Cup draw known as the Capital One Cup . Its name is due to a sponsorship partnership with Capital One . It was attended by 92 teams representing the Premier League and the Football League . The tournament began on August 11, 2016 and ended on February 28, 2017 [1] . The winner of the tournament received a ticket to the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League .

The triumphs of the previous draw, Chelsea , could not defend the trophy, as they lost in the fourth round of the draw to the Stoke City team in the penalty shoot-out.
February 28 at Wembley in the final standoff between Manchester City and Liverpool , the townspeople won. In the main time, the match ended with the score 1: 1, and in the penalty shootout the players from Manchester were stronger [2] .
This season was the last with Capital One as a sponsor. Since the 2016/2017 season , the Football League Cup has been renamed the EFL Cup [3] .
Format
The tournament is attended by 92 teams representing the Premier League and the Football League . The tournament consists of seven rounds and is organized so that by the 3rd round 32 teams remain from the draw. Clubs qualifying for European competitions in the previous season begin their participation in the tournament from the third round, the rest of the Premier League clubs from the second round, and the Football League clubs from the first round.
