Sopio Gvetadze ( Georgian სოფიო გვეტაძე ; born November 15, 1983 , Tbilisi ) - Georgian chess player , grandmaster among women ( 2006 ) [1] , international master among men ( 2007 ) [2] .

Biography

She repeatedly represented Georgia at the European Youth Chess Championships and the Youth World Chess Championships among girls in various age groups, where she achieved the greatest success in 2001, when she won the Youth World Championship among girls in the U18 age group. In the same year, she became the champion of Georgia among girls in the same age group. In 2002, together with Nana, Dzagnidze shared the first place at the Georgian Women's Chess Championship in the U20 age group. In 2004, in Izmir, she won the NTN Women's European Team Chess Cup in Tbilisi [3] . In 2006, she was tenth at the European Women's Individual Chess Championship [4] . In 2007, she won a bronze medal at the Georgian Women's Chess Championship .

She qualified for the Women's World Chess Championship in 2008 , which was held in Nalchik , but because of an armed conflict in South Ossetia, together with other Georgian chess players, refused to participate in the tournament [5] . In the World Women's Chess Championship in 2017 in Tehran, in the first round, she lost to her compatriot Nino Batsiashvili [6] .

Represented Georgia at the 2007 World Chess Team Championship . In 2007, in Romania at the European Championship for Women in Rapid Chess, she took 3rd place and in the same year at the European Championships in Blitz, she took 2nd place.
