About the album

The album “Čirvoni Strahl” is named after the cafe of the same name, which existed in Vilna at the beginning of the 20th century . Representatives of the Belarusian intelligentsia loved to be in this cafe. Among the guests of the institution were including Janka Kupala and the Lutskevich brothers . In this cafe, the action of one of the songs of the album [3] [4] takes place. There is a legend that in 1916 it was in this cafe that the Lutskevichs met with representatives of Polish and Lithuanian circles, after which the brothers came to the conclusion that it was necessary to focus not on the reconstruction of the Commonwealth or the Grand Duchy of Lithuania , but on the creation of an independent Belarus, that they and tried to implement in 1918 under the flag of the BNR [5] .

The album was recorded in 2014-2015 in Vilnius at the Ymir Audio studio, where Lyavon’s solo album Gramadaznachestva was recorded before. Sound producer was also Norwegian Snorre Bergerud [6] . Lavon Volsky said so about the new work of Krambambuli: [5]

The album “Chirvoni Strahl” is a phantasmagoria in which the past, present and future of Belarus are mixed, reflected with humor and irony peculiar to Krambambula. This is the last album of the group, after which we will leave for partisan forests. We do not see other options for existence in modern conditions.

On September 30, 2015, the group presented to the public the first song from the album “That Nya Pipe”. “Throughout its history, Krambambula was glamorous, was foolish, and now the situation has made us become more serious. This song will open the album, because it is a kind of preface, an introduction to the topic. It is that today we are bulging out, and tomorrow it will probably be necessary to go to fight for our native land, ”Lyavon Volsky explained [7] . Simultaneously with the release of the album on October 14, a video clip for the song “Kab kali kamu kamu chago” was released, which was filmed by the director and longtime friend of the group Matvey Saburov [4] .

There are 12 tracks on the album. Among other things, the album includes a cover version of the song "Partyzanskaya" by NRM from the 1996 album " Odzіrydzіdzіna ". This song was NRM’s first major hit. [8] The song “I Have a Milestone” is a free reinterpretation of Bob Marley ’s song “ I Shot the Sheriff ” [9] .

Since Krambambul is on the unofficial list of musicians banned in Belarus, a concert-presentation of the new album took place in Vilnius on November 7, 2015. As usual in such cases, the Lithuanian Embassy issued free visas for several days for citizens of Belarus upon presentation of a ticket to the concert [4] [10] .

Reviews

The album was met positively by professional critics; its average score was 8.5 out of 10 on Experty.by . Most experts agreed that it was either the best or one of the group’s best albums. Also, everyone noted a change in the theme of the songs. She became more serious, the group in this work moved away from their usual alcoholic lyrics [1] .

As for the partisan theme of the album, Yegor Tsyvilko noted: “The theme of partisanism on the Chyrvony Stral is revealed without moralizing and heroizing the struggle. Everything is like in life, where war and death coexist with love, dancing and laughter. As a result, the characters of the songs are perceived by convex, lively, normal people, and not by stereotyped wrestlers from posters and films ” [1] .
