History

In many large cities of the Russian Empire in the 19th century there were secondary general educational institutions Departments of institutions of the Empress Maria Alexandrovna , named after her. In Kremenchug, a women's gymnasium was opened on March 1, 1866 and was located on the corner of Kagamlytskaya (now Gogol ) and Kievskaya (now Victory Street ) streets . To accommodate the gymnasium, the City Duma purchased and converted a profitable residential building [1] .

In 1901, in part of the 25th anniversary of the gymnasium, a new modern building was built, annexed to the existing corner. In connection with this event, the newspaper "Builder Week" wrote [1] :

A building with all technical improvements. Central heating, steam, low pressure, electric lighting. All classrooms are tall, extensive, with plenty of air and excellent ventilation. A large recreation hall has been arranged.

Education was paid and cost 50 rubles a year in the lower grades and 70 rubles in the senior, payment was made for the first six months. Tuition fees accounted for about 60% of the gymnasium budget. The rest was made up of charitable contributions and city council contributions.

Poor students were supported by a charity for the benefit of needy schoolchildren from the Kremenchug women's gymnasium, headed by the director of the Alexander Real School . The best students received scholarships in honor of the founders of the gymnasium A. Guericke, P. Stronin and O. Gogel. The gymnasium was also assisted by the Board of Trustees, chaired by Dr. Avksenty Trofimovich Bogaevsky for many years.
