Asian Physical Olympiad

Asian Physical Olympiad (AFO) ^[1] - an annual competition in physics among schoolchildren of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region . She is one of the international physics olympiads. It is considered the most difficult Olympiad, in contrast to the International Physical Olympiad for schoolchildren - the most prestigious.

The first Asian Physical Olympiad was held in Indonesia in 2000 .

Russia first took part in the 12th Olympiad in 2011 in Israel . Seven young physicists from Moscow and one from Kaliningrad (four eleventh graders and four tenth graders) led by Lukyanov I.V. ( Moscow ) and Boronilov B.A. ( Kaliningrad ) immediately after the finals of the All-Russian Olympiad went to the city of Herzliya . The Olympiad itself was held from May 1 to 9 in Tel Aviv . The competition was attended by 120 students from 16 countries. The result of Russia: 2 “gold”, 1 “silver”, 3 “bronze”.

2012 year . 13th Olympiad. Passed from April 30 to May 7 in New Delhi , India . 156 students from 21 countries took part.

2013 year . 14th Olympiad. Held from May 5 to 13 in Bogor , Indonesia . 146 students from 20 countries took part.

2014 year . 15th Olympiad. Passed from May 11 to May 19 in Singapore . 174 students from 27 countries took part. The result of Russia: 1 “gold”, 3 “silver”, 3 “bronze”, 1 “PG”.

2015 year . 16th Olympiad. Held from May 3 to 11 in Hangzhou , People's Republic of China . The competition was attended by 186 students from 25 countries. The result of Russia: 4 “gold”, 3 “silver”, 1 “bronze”.

2016 year . 17th Olympiad. Passed from May 1 to May 9 in Hong Kong . The competition was attended by over 200 students from 26 countries. The result of Russia: 2 “gold”, 3 “silver”, 3 “bronze”.

2017 .18th Olympiad. Held from May 1 to May 9 in Yakutsk , Russia . The competition was attended by 170 students from 24 countries. Our country was represented by 2 teams of 8 students each. Result: 4 “gold”, 2 “silver”, 4 “bronze”, 4 “PG”.

AFI is held according to the rules of the International Physical Olympiad (one five-hour theoretical tour and one or two experimental tours). The Olympics usually take place about two months before the International Physical Olympiad, it can be considered as one of the stages of preparation for it.
