Biography
Born on March 4, 1913 in the city of Boulogne-Billancourt ( France ). The only daughter of Luis Orleans-Braganca (1878-1920), the imperial prince of Brazil (1908-1920), and Princess Maria Pia Bourbon of Sicily (1878-1973). The younger sister of Prince Pedro Enrique Orleans-Bragança and Prince Luis Gastan Orleans-Bragança .
In 1920, her father passed away, 42-year-old Prince Luis Orleans-Bragança, who bore the title of Imperial Prince of Brazil in 1908-1920. A year later, in 1921, the 75-year-old Princess Isabella of Brazil (1846-1921), the grandmother of Pia Maria, the head of the Brazilian imperial dynasty of Orleans-Braganza (1891-1921) died. Pedro Enrique (1909-1981), Prince of Grao Para, became the imperial prince of Brazil in 1920 , and the next head of the Brazilian imperial house in exile in 1921 (1921-1981). Pedro Enrique Orleans-Bragança was not married and had no children, so the title of imperial prince of Brazil in 1921 was inherited by his younger brother, Prince Luis Gastan Orleans-Bragança (1911-1931).
In 1931, the 20-year-old Prince Luis Gastan of Orleans-Bragança died while he was not married. After the death of her childless brother, Pia Maria Orleans-Bragança inherited the title of Imperial Princess of Brazil , which she wore for seven years (1931-1938).
The situation changed in 1938 when the eldest son of Prince Pedro Enrique was born, Prince Luis Orleans-Braganca, nephew of Pia Maria. At birth, Prince Luis Orleans-Braganca received from his father the title of Imperial Prince of Brazil .
On October 24, 2000, the 87-year-old Princess Pia Maria Orleans-Braganca died at Le Lud Castle in France.
