Exportin 1 ( XPO1 ), also known as chromosomal maintenance 1 (chromosome structure maintenance protein 1, CRM1 ) is a eukaryotic protein that is a member of the importin-beta family and mediates the export of proteins, rRNA , snRNA and some mRNA from the nucleus. ^[1] ^[2] ^[3] ^[4]

History

Initially, XPO1 (CRM1) was identified in the fissile yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe during genetic screening and determined that it is involved in the control of chromosome structure ^[5]

Function

Exportin 1, among other things, mediates protein transport from the nucleus, depending on the leucine-rich transport signal from the nucleus ( NES ). Exportin 1 specifically inhibits the export of Rev nuclei and UiRNA . It is involved in the control of several cellular processes by controlling the localization of cyclin B , MAPK, and MAPKAP kinase 2 . This protein also regulates NFAT and AP-1 . ^[6]
