History
On the 10th moon of the 5th year of Yoro (721), two volosts were allocated from the southern part of Shibat county: Katta ( 苅 田 郷 ) and Atsuka ( 篤 借 郷 ). Of these, Katta County was formed.
According to the Vameu Ruijusho dictionary created in the first half of the 10th century, Katta County included 4 volosts: Atsuka ( 篤 借 郷 ), Katta ( 苅 田 郷 ), Sakata ( 坂 田 郷 ) and Mita ( 三 田 郷 ).
During the Bakumatsu period (from 1853 to 1869), Katta County was part of the Mutsu Province , and was located on the territory of the Principality of Sendai .
According to the statistical book “Kyudaka Kuryo Torisirabeto” ( 旧 高 旧 領取 調帳 ), compiled by the government at the beginning of the Meiji era for each prefecture, there were 33 villages in the county: Shiroishihon-go ( 白石 本 郷 ), Kuramoto ( 蔵 本村 ), Moriai ( 森 合村 ), Nagabukuro ( 長 袋 村 ), Yatsumiya ( 八 宮 村 ), Koriyama ( 郡 山村 ), Takanosu ( 鷹 巣 村 ), Sakaya ( 坂 谷 村 ), Nakanome ( 中 ノ 目 村 ), Saikawa ( 斎 川村 ), Kosugo ( 越 河村 ), Goka ( 五 賀 村 ) Tyra ( 平 村 ) Misawa ( 三 沢 村 ), Inusotoba ( 犬 卒 都 婆 村 ), Koku ( 小 奥 村 ), Utioya ( 内親 村 ), Kositagura ( 小 下 倉 村 ), Fukaya ( 深谷 村 ), Miya ( 宮 村 ), Magatake ( 曲 竹村 ), Yatsuki ( 矢 附 村 ), Shiozawa ( 塩 沢 村 ), Enda ( 円 田村 ) , Hirasawa ( 平 沢 村 ), Obara ( 小 原 村 ), Seki ( 関村 ), Namezu ( 滑 津 村 ), Watarase ( 渡 瀬 村 ), Yunohara ( 湯原 村 ), Omachi ( 大 町 村 ), Komurasaki ( 小 村 崎 村 ), Tsuda津 田村). - On January 19, 1869, Mutsu Province was divided, and Katta County became part of Iwashiro Province ( 岩 代 国 )
- September 12, 1869, the territory of the Principality of Siroishi (白石藩) formed Siroishi Prefecture (白石 県)
- December 29, 1869 Shiroishi Prefecture was renamed Kakuda Prefecture (角 田 県)
- On January 7, 1870, Katta County, together with Igu County, became part of Iwaki Province ( 磐 城 国 )
- On December 13, 1871, with the abolition of the khan system , Katta County was annexed to Sendai Prefecture ( 仙台 県 )
- On February 16, 1872, Sendai Prefecture was renamed Miyagi Prefecture
- On April 22, 1876, the county was transferred under the control of Iwasaki Prefecture ( 磐 前 県 )
- On August 21, 1876, the county returns to Miyagi Prefecture

- On April 1, 1889, with the creation of the modern municipal system, the settlement of Shiroishi ( 白石 町 ) and 10 villages were formed: Fukuoka (福岡 村), Miya (宮 村), Enda (円 田村), Shirakawa (白 川村), Otakasawa (大鷹 沢 村), Odaira (大平 村), Saikawa (斎 川村), Kosugo (越 河村), Obara (小 原 村) and Shikikasyuku (七 ヶ 宿 村). - On April 1, 1923, the county council was abolished, the county administration remains
- On April 1, 1926, part of the village of Shirakawa was annexed to the village of Shiroishi
- On July 1, 1926, the county administration was abolished.
- According to the data for 1935, the area of Katta county is 701.80 km², the population is 51,175 people (25,417 men, 25,758 women) [3]
- On April 1, 1954, the village of Shiroishi, the villages of Odaira, Otakasawa, Fukuoka, Shirakawa, Kosugo and Saikawa unite and form the city of Shiroishi . Accordingly, they leave the county
- On April 1, 1955, the villages of Enda and Miya merge to form the village of Zao
- March 31, 1957 the village of Obara is part of the city of Shiroishi
- April 1, 1957, the village of Sitikasyuku becomes the village of Sitikasyuku
