In the USA, the song reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 ; in the UK, the single reached number 17 (on the UK Singles Chart ) [1] .

For Bon Jovi, it was the third number 1 hit in the United States, with all three written by them in collaboration with Desmond Child . (The previous two are “ You Give Love a Bad Name ” and “ Livin 'on a Prayer .”)

The plot of the song

In the song, love is compared to drug addiction. The text is full of deliberate comic medical metaphors, such as “There is no paramedic to save [me] after this heart attack” ( There ain't no paramedic gonna save this heart attack ) [1] .
