Proof test

Proof test (Bourdon Test) - a method of pathopsychological research, borrowed from the psychology of work. Used to detect fatigue, assess concentration and sustainability of attention. Proposed by the French psychologist B. Bourdon in 1895 [1] .

Instructions

Sample form

The test is carried out using special forms with randomly arranged rows of characters (letters, numbers) [2] . The test subject, looking through the form, row by row, cross out the symbols indicated in the instructions from it. After the “Start!” Command, the experimenter starts the stopwatch and, after each minute, puts a mark in the place where the subject holds the pencil at that moment. The duration of the methodology can be 3, 5 or 10 minutes, depending on the task [3] .

Results

In clinical practice, indicators of changes in the speed of work (number of characters viewed per unit time) and change in accuracy (number of errors at the same intervals) are used [4] . The construction of these two graphs reveals fatigue (decrease in speed and accuracy), inability (increase in speed, accuracy) and fluctuations of one or another indicator [5] .

Limitations

It is necessary to take into account the state of vision of the subject, as well as his level of literacy.
