History

Bogdan Titomir and Sergey Lemokh (aka Sergey Ogurtsov) met when they worked in a dance and played bass and keyboards, respectively, with singer Vladimir Maltsev [1] , for whom Lemokh composed the song “Paris, Paris”. The guys noticed the producer Arkady Ukupnik and immediately proposed to organize a group.

In November 1989 band's first performances took place (at the concerts “Magic of Stars”), and on January 1, 1990 a three-year contract was signed with the studio “Gala” . The dance movements, which were subsequently copied by the fans, the members of the group invented themselves. Now Sergey Lemokh recalls this “dance revolution" with a smile. [2]

Initially, the duo referred to themselves as "exotic pop duet." The name was taken as the name "Carmen"; in 1990, the name was transformed into "Kar-man." According to the performers themselves, in this way they "went to meet the wishes of the listeners, obscuring the initial reminder of the treacherous Spanish rival of today's young seducers." The name can be considered as “man-car” [3] , the performers themselves prefer the synonym “traveler” [4] . In this regard, the band’s first album entitled “ Around the World ” (1990) had a peculiar concept : each song from it somehow tells about different cities and countries.

The group first appeared on television in the spring of 1990, on the 2x2 television channel, performing several songs, then in the summer of that year in the Variety Vernissage program, with the Paris video, and at the end of the year, summed up in the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper , the duet has become a leader in two categories: “Discovery of the Year” and “Group of the Year” [4] .

The group received a number of awards: “Schlager-90” (1990), “50x50” (1991), “Star rain” (1991), “Ovation” (1991).

In April 1991, Bogdan Titomir left the project, having decided to pursue a solo career [5] . Sergey Lemokh rewrote all the vocals of Titomir for the next Karmania album, and as a result the album was released in 1992.

The 1994 album " Russian Massive Sound Aggression " is considered one of the few Russian-language albums entirely in the techno style [6] .

Lemokh takes part in third-party projects: he starred in commercials, recorded the soundtrack for the animated series " Captain Pronin, " wrote musical screensavers for television shows, etc.

In parallel with his work at Karmen, Sergey Lemokh worked as a composer, writing several songs for other artists ( Natalya Senchukova , Lada Dance , Natalia Gulkina , Igor Seliverstov and Natalya Vetlitskaya ).

Since 2013 Sergey Lemokh is a member, founder and vocalist of the rock band “Carbonrock”, which began recording the first album, as well as began concert activities.
