Glitter ( eng. Glitter - “shine”, “sparkle”) - multi-colored decorative, finely chopped and crumbly sparkles. Glitter is often used in cosmetics to create extravagant or holiday makeup , and is also applied to nails as part of nail art [1] . Glitter particles are visible with the naked eye on the skin and give it an active shine, like sequins , which perform the same function when used on clothing and accessories [2] .

Before using glitter, the skin is treated with a special oily base, for example, using cream eyeshadow . Then the glitter is applied to the treated area using a dry brush [1] .

One of the trends of 2015 on Instagram was the photos with the hashtag #glitterbeard, in which men pose with glitter applied to their beard [3] [4] .

Glitter is also widely used in printing . For printing, glitters of 50 and 200 microns in various shades are used, for example, gold, silver, lilac, turquoise, ruby red, green and others. Varnishes with glitter added to them are also called glitter varnishes [5] .

At the end of 2017, New Zealand ecologist Tricia Farrelli, studying the environmental impact of plastics, called for a ban on glitter production - by analogy with the law, which prohibits manufacturers in the US and the UK from using plastic beads in cosmetics and hygiene products [6] [7] .
