Kilar Khashirov ( Chilar Khachirov ) - one of the first conquerors of Elbrus , who made his ascent on July 11 ( 22 ), 1829 , as part of the scientific expedition of General Emmanuel [1] [2] [3] [4] .

Biography
Very little is known from the biography. The expeditionary labor stated that he was born in Volny Aul (now a microdistrict of the city of Nalchik ). By nationality was Kabardian . Regarding the exact spelling of the name and surname of the first ascent, there are discrepancies (Kilar / Chilar, Khashirov / Khachirov).
The Conquest of Elbrus
In 1829, at the suggestion of General Emmanuel , a scientific expedition was assembled to the foot of Elbrus . The guide was Kilar Khashirov [5] [6] .
On July 11 (22), 1829, while climbing Elbrus, most of the expedition did not reach the summit due to bad weather. Kilar, continuing the campaign, ascended the eastern summit of Elbrus [7] . Thus, becoming one of the first conquerors [8] [9] . From the summit he brought a piece of basalt black with greenish streaks (one part of which was sent to Petersburg , and the second Emmanuel handed Besse for storage in the national museum.
At the same time, one of the members of the expedition, Janos de Bess, wrote about Kilyar, that this commoner was from Great Kabarda, living in a free village on Nalchik. His name is Killar, he is the only one who ascended that day to the top of Elbrus and had the good fortune to reach it. His memory should be preserved for posterity [10] .
The rest of the climbers were able to reach only a height of about 5,300 meters. The first ascent of Elbrus was greeted by three rifle volleys. The general awarded Kilar a premium of 400 rubles in silver.
Shortly after climbing Elbrus, on the recommendation of General Emmanuel Kilar Khashirov, he was enlisted in the Life Guards Caucasian-Gorsky Half-Squadron and served more than 9 years in Warsaw .
At the Lugansk plant, two plaques of cast iron were cast in honor of the ascent, one of them was installed in Pyatigorsk and the other in Nalchik [11] .
Memory
