History
It was founded in 1981 by the conductor Tõnu Kaliuste, who was the leader of the choir for 20 years and made him world famous. In 1991, the choir won the Takarazuka Choir Competition in Japan, having won three gold medals and the Grand Prix, after which he began concert activity: he toured in Estonia and abroad. The choir’s repertoire ranges from Gregorian singing and the Late Baroque to works of the 20th century and many contemporary composers (such as Arvo Pärt and Veljo Tormis ). The choir won two Grammy awards in 2007 and 2014 for the best choral performance: Da pacem by Arvo Pärt and Adam's Lament of the same Pärt (also Tui Hirv and Rainer Vilu, Sinfonietta Riga and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra , Latvian Choir Radio and Vox Clamantis).
From 2001 to 2008, Paul Hillier from Great Britain was the conductor, from September 2008 Daniel Reuss from the Netherlands held this post, and Kaspars Putnins became the conductor from the music season 2014/2015. The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir has collaborated with many conductors and orchestras of the world, as well as with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra . He gave concerts in many countries of Europe (including Russia), the USA, Canada, Japan and Australia.
