History
According to folk tradition, the monastery is the strangulation of King Stephen Dragutin . The modern church was built in the 60s or 70s of the XVI century. The first written record is dated November 6, 1577/78. In 1578, the iconostasis was made by the Pecherk monk Longinus. It is believed that at that time Lovnitsa was a compound of Papracha , and not an independent monastery [1] .
In 1823, the church was covered with a new tiled roof. In 1884 it was rediscovered. During the Second World War, the monastery building and the roof of the church burned down, and a partisan hospital was operating near the monastery [1] .
In 1952, the restoration of the monastery and the restoration of frescoes and the iconostasis began. In March 1979, Bishop Vasily (Kachavenda) transferred three nuns from Tavna Monastery , who revived monastic life in the monastery [1] .
Since 2005, the monastery has been included in the list of national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina [2] .
