Etymology of the Latin name
Polymestor ( dr. Greek Πολυμήστωρ , Πολυμνήστωρ ) is a character of ancient Greek mythology, the king of the Thracians [1] .
Description
A large butterfly with a wingspan of about 12-14 cm [2] . The main background of the wings is black. Fore wings with an elongated apex; in the male, with a wide gray-bluish strip cut through by black veins of the wing. The strip tapers to the top of the wing. Against the same gray-blue background of the hind wings are rows of rounded black spots of various sizes. The outer edge of the hind wing is wavy. “Ponytails” on the hind wings are absent. Females do not have a saturated light blue color, light areas of the wing are bluish-gray.
Individuals living on the continent differ from the island ones from Sri Lanka with a narrower light stripe on the front wings. Among the island females there are specimens of the form, on the wings of which gray-blue color elements are replaced by yellowish-cream ones.
