The combined classification for the Giro d'Italia was played out irregularly within the framework of the Giro between 1973 and 2006 . The winner was determined by the sum of the places occupied in the general , mountain and sprint classifications.
History
For the first time, a combined classification appeared on the Jiro 1973 [1] . The first winner was the legendary Belgian Eddie Merckx , who won the general and sprint classification and became the second in the mountain.
A few years later, the classification was returned for a short time, but did not have a separate prize shirt. In 1988, Andrew Hampsten , winner of the combined standings, received a special blue jersey. Subsequently, the blue shirt was awarded to the leaders of the Intergiro classification , after its elimination in 2006, Paolo Savoldelli , who won the combined classification, again received the blue shirt [2] . Since 2007, this nomination has not been raffled.
