Background
A year before the performance of Petsia in 1857, the uprising was raised by Luka Vukalović in Herzegovina, which continued the following year [7] : a revolt of Prota Avramovich was raised in Gradacac [8] .
Rebellion
In mid-1858, in the northwestern part of Bosnia, the Serbs raised another rebellion against the Turks who oppressed them. In Ivansk, in Bosansk-Krup, parishioners of the Roman Catholic Church opposed Turkish rule [9] . The exchange of fire with the Turks led to the fact that the inhabitants of neighboring villages, determined to fight against the Turkish “Zulum”, also took up arms. [10] In June 1858, an uprising swept Knešpole [10] . The leaders were Peter Popovich-Petsia, Petar Garacha, Simo Chosich and Risto Eich [11] . Mostly Orthodox Serbs lived in Kneshpol, Muslims lived mainly in cities [10] . On June 20, the rebels knocked out Muslims in Novi Grad, about 600 people gathered at Novi Grad to attack the city [10] . Petsia and Garacha gathered 3 thousand people [10] who entered Ivansk to help the rebels. On July 4, 100 Turks were killed in the battle of Dolany near Bihac, after which Eich went to Austria to negotiate with the Austrians and convince them to send help to local residents fighting against Turkish rule [11] . On July 15, a battle took place near the Ivan Gorge, where both Petsia and Garacha fought [11] . The rebels were defeated, Petsia and Garacha took the survivors in Kneshpol for the last battle [10] .
Turkish troops, meanwhile, received reinforcements from all of Bosnia and on July 21 entered the battle of Tavia. About a thousand rebels could not restrain the Turkish onslaught, and many retreated to Austria. The rest fought at the village of Kulyan the next day: Petsia and Garacha also decided to retreat to Austria, but the Austrians surrendered both to the Turkish government. In the ensuing battle, Petsia and Garacha with only 300 fighters broke through the Turkish encirclement ring and fled to Mount Prosar [10] . Over the next months, Petsia and Garacha waged a guerrilla war in Kneshpol, however, it was soon over: in December Garacha died at Kostainitsa, but Petsia fled to Austria, where he was again extradited to the Turks for an amount of 5 thousand pennies [10] . Petsia was brought to trial in Istanbul for the murder of 98 Turkish residents and was sentenced to death; the sentence was to be carried out in the Bosnian ejalet [12] . However, Petsia escaped during the crossing through Uzice and took refuge in the Principality of Serbia [10] .
