History
- The station opened on January 9, 1910 as part of the Chatelet - Raspai launch site, connecting the northern and southern sections of line 4 with a continuous tunnel under the Seine. The station got its name from Saint-Germain-des-Prés square, named after the medieval bishop German of Paris , who led the spiritual life under King Clovis I. In addition to the station, a nearby quarter was named after him.
- In 2016, the station was renovated as part of preparations for the future automation of line 4.
- The passenger traffic at the station at the entrance in 2011, according to the RATP , amounted to 4,548,167 people [1] . In 2013, this figure decreased to 4498265 passengers (101 seats in terms of the input passenger flow in the Paris metro) [2] .
Design and Design
The station was built according to the typical Parisian project of 1900-1952 - a single-vault shallow station with two side platforms. The walls and vault are tiled in the style of Andre-Motte, rectangular luminescent lamps are fixed under the vault. During the renovation in 2016, the walls were decorated with light installations with quotes from works by French writers (a similar method of installation was used, for example, at the Mary de Montrouge station in 2013).
