History
The story of ENR begins with two editions. The oldest magazine was first published as “ The Engineer and Surveyor” (as a translation of “Engineer and Researcher”) in 1874. This edition was later renamed “ The Engineer, Architect and Surveyor” (Engineer, Architect and Researcher) , then “ Engineering News and American Railway Journal ”(Engineering News and American Railway Journal), and eventually “ Engineering News ”(Engineering News) . The second edition was originally known as “ The Plumber and Sanitary Engineer” (Plumber and Plumbing Engineer) . It was later renamed “ The Sanitary Engineer” , then “ Engineering and Building Record” (Engineering and Construction Journal) , and, finally, “ Engineering Record” . In 1917, Engineering News (Engineering News) and Engineering Record (Engineering Journal) merged and became the journal that is still published today, Engineering News-Record in which EJ Mehren worked as an editor until 1924. After combining the two magazines into one ENR, the publication began to be recognized as a leading engineering and construction news magazine. Unlike competitors, ENR is a weekly paid magazine. Most of its competitors are monthly magazines that are primarily distributed free of charge to qualified subscribers. In the industry magazine, ENR was called canonical.
