Biography
Jean Dreville was born on September 20, 1906 in Vitry-sur-Seine (Val de Marne department in France) in the family of Alice and Alexander Dreville.
From childhood, he was interested in drawing and photography. After becoming a photographer, he worked as a journalist in a number of publications, in particular in Photo-Ciné, Cinégraphie and Stéréo.
After meeting with Marcel L'Erbier, Jean Dreville became his assistant on the set of the Money tape and made his debut as a director by filming a documentary reportage about filming Money - Around Money. ” After this successful experience, Dreville became the director of a number of short and documentary films.
In the first half of the 1930s, Dreville directed three comedies based on the script of the playwright Roger Ferdinand: “Three Percent” (1934), “Man in Gold” (1934) and “Good intentions” (1935). After meeting in 1944 with Noel-Noel, Jean Dreville shot him in many of his films, one of which is “ Bores ” (1948), was awarded the Louis Delluc Prize and the French Film Grand Prix .
In the early 1960s, Jean Dreville put on several biographical films, in particular Lafayette (1961) and Third Youth (1965, about Marius Petipa ).
In 1960, Dreville became the director of the first joint French-Soviet film Normandy-Niemen about the combat route of the legendary French 1st Normandy-Neman fighter aviation regiment, which fought as part of the Soviet 1st Air Army during World War II.
In 1952, Jean Dreville was a member of the jury of the 5th Cannes International Film Festival .
In 1952-1997 he was married to Veronica Deschamps. Daughter Valerie Dreville - actress.
