Biography
Marc Michel was born in the city of Bas-Tère on the island of Guadeloupe, an overseas department of France in the West Indies . His mother often drove to the cinema, and already in childhood his knowledge of films was encyclopedic. After graduating from school in Bas-Tère, he arrives in Paris and goes to work at the bank first, and then sells cars. Following his love for music and singing in particular, he becomes a lecturer in the organization Musical Youth of France ( fr. Jeunesses musicales de France ) with a specialization in jazz music , and then tries himself as a singer. He loves the public, and he likes to hold her attention [2] .
Having decided to become an actor, Mark Michel passed vocational training at the Courses of Dramatic Art ( French Cours d'art dramatique ) René Simon ( French René-Simon ) [3] .
Mark Michel's film debut took place in 1955 in detective Sophie and crime ( fr. Sophie et le crime ) Pierre Gaspard-Juy ( fr. Pierre Gaspard-Huit ) with Marina Vlady , where he played a small role of a young fiance in the comedy “ First Insults” ( fr. Les Premiers outrages ) Jean Gourge ( Fr. Jean Gourguet ). Luck comes after five years of unemployment: in 1959, he was chosen by Jacques Becker for the filming of his now famous film Hole , participation in which was an important step for many novice actors. In the film, he played the role of Claude Gaspard ( fr. Claude Gaspard ), a young man from a good family who betrays his comrades preparing to escape from prison. His girlfriend played missing in the credits Catherine Spaak . It was not an easy experience: Becker plunged the actors into the world of imprisonment and its harsh conditions, forcing exhausted performers to sometimes repeat the scene thirty times. And, as an actor then even supposed, perhaps, the last one for him. But soon another important event for his professional recognition happened. Jean-Louis Trentignan , engaged in the filming of Jacques Demi Lola , refuses at the last moment, and the main role goes to Mark Michel [2] .
His Roland Cassard ( fr. Roland Cassard ), a melancholic and restless, rejected lover Lola, became one of the most prominent characters in the films of Jacques Demi [4] .
And finally, in early 1963, Jacques Demi held a casting for the filming of the Sherbir umbrellas . This is the second film of the trilogy, launched by Lola and completed in 1969 by the film Model Shop . Also, the character Roland Cassar passes from Lola to this musical melodrama, having undergone, however, significant changes. Somewhat bohemian in the first film and almost a participant in a fraudulent operation, Roland turns into a businesslike, serious man with neatly trimmed mustaches, who also has a certain cultural inclination. But, according to Jacques Demi, the performer is not quite suitable for this role. The director watched the screen tests of other candidates of other actors and returned to him. Shooting at the beginning was not easy, but, ultimately, he took the actor [2] .
Later, Mark Michel entered the cast of two famous films by Andre Kayat : Roads of Kathmandu ( fr. Les Chemins de Katmandou , 1969) with Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg and No Smoke Without Fire ( fr. Il n'y a pas de fumée sans feu , 1973), Soviet blackmail , with Annie Girardot and Mireille Dark . Also shot in the foreground by Italian directors: Luigi Comencini in the drama The Bride of Bube ( Italian: La ragazza di Bube , 1964) and Mino Gvernini ( fr. Mino Guerrini ) in the comedy Up and Down ( Italian: Su e giù , 1965) . Filmography by Mark Michel, rich and diverse, consists of more than thirty films and covers the time period from 1955 to the early 2000s [2] .
The last film with his participation was released in 2012: this is Summer in Provence ( English Summer in Provence ), a picture of the production of Guadeloupe, shot in the metropolis in French and Chinese [5] .
The actor tried himself in different types of performing arts. In the theater he played in several performances: in the play Calderon Life is a Dream ( fr. La Vie est un songe ), he takes the stage as early as 1961 at the Montauban Festival ( fr. Festival Montauban ). In 1964, Claude Régis ( fr. Claude Regy ), invited him to a performance based on the novel by Henry James Wings of the Dove ( fr. Les Ailes de la colombe ), and Roger Plancheon approved the role of Berenice ( fr. Bérénice ) Racine . In the 1980s, Jean-Pierre Miguel ( fr. Jean-Pierre Miquel ) involved the actor in the Harold Pinter Collection ( fr. La Collection d'Harold Pinter ), and Jacques Bayon ( fr. Jacques Baillon ) - in Information from an angel ( fr L'Ange de l'information ) based on the novel by Alberto Moravia [2] .
He also remembered the audience for his participation in numerous television films and episodes of TV series on French and Swiss television, including such successful ones as: The Slaughter Department ( fr. La Crim ), Maitre Da Costa ( fr. Maître Da Costa ), Julien Fontanet, judge ( fr Julien Fontanes, Magistrat ) and Last Five Minutes ( fr. Les Cinq dernières minutes ) [2] .
Marc Michel passed away on November 3, 2016 at the age of 87 years after a long illness at his home in Dreux, Ayr and Loire [6] . His funeral took place on November 10, 2016 at the Vernuye crematorium ( fr. Vernouillet ). Yvelines , Ильle-de-France [3] . In the obituary, Le Figaro spoke of the actor as “a very polite and restrained person” [2] .
