Jean-Louis Bailly taught literature at various colleges and lyceums, including the Lyceum of Clemenceau in Nantes , until his retirement in 2016 [1] [2] . He began to write early, at the age of seven; from twenty years published stories; at 35 he wrote his first novel (L'Année de la bulle). Subsequently, he published a number of novels in various publishing houses. In addition, Bailly collaborates with Écrire magazine [1] .
Among his favorite writers, Bailly names Stendhal and Flaubert ; among the most influential are Georges Perek , William Faulkner , Marcel Aimee and Raymond Keno [3] .
Jean-Louis Bailly is a member of the College of Pathophysics . Influenced by pataphysical and ulipist literature, he created the longest poetic lipogram in French. It is an arrangement of Apollinaire ’s poem “La Chanson du Mal-Aimé” without the use of the letter “e” [4] . In the spirit of pataphysical exercises, the text Des gars jurent des gageures (1986), consisting of pantorithms, was also written.
In Russian, one novel by Jean-Louis Bailly was published - “To Ashes” ( French Vers la poussière , translation into Russian by Valery Kislov). This novel, which received many rave reviews from critics and was awarded the Atlantic Loire Award in 2011, alternates the narrative of the life of a brilliant pianist and a detailed chronicle of the posthumous decay of his body [5] . According to the author himself, the book of the French entomologist Jean-Pierre Menin “Cadaverous fauna” [2] served as a source of factual information when describing the decomposition process.
