Story
The story of a firefighter team called the Granite Mountain Hotshots who participated in the fight against forest fires in Arizona in the summer of 2013. Squad leader Eric Marsh takes on the rookie team Brandon MacDon. The guy is unemployed, sluggish and abusing drugs, has just left prison, but the commander gives him a chance. Brandon is expecting a replenishment in the family. The remaining team members are distrustful of him. The detachment needs to obtain a federal license to fight fires, otherwise they are not truly trusted with responsible tasks. A beginner can pull back the whole team.
Brandon goes through hard training and several small fires. The team manages to save the relic tree "Big Juniper" symbol of the city and they become heroes. After a year of work, Brandon is gradually gaining authority among colleagues. The detachment has a difficult task. Fire approaches the town of Prescott , preparing to evacuate. On the night before the operation, Brandon warns the commander that he is about to leave the dangerous work of a forest fireman, as his wife is worried about his life. Marsh asks him to consider the decision, although he makes it clear that he will not risk it. The Granite Mountain Hotshots team sets off into the forest and creates a head fire that should stop the spread of the main threat. Due to an error, the pilots extinguish a controlled fire and the team is trapped. 19 firefighters die in the fire. Only Brandon manages to escape by miracle, whom the commander sent to a hill to monitor the progress of the fire. Brandon returns to the city and meets with family members of the deceased comrades. He finds no words to explain how he managed to escape.
A few years after the events, Brandon with his grown daughter visits the "Big Juniper" and remembers the dead comrades.
