Biography
In the years 1873-1878, Max Coner studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts with Eduard Dege , Eduard Holbein , Anton von Werner and Max Michael . In 1875, Coner continued his education in Italy, in 1878 he visited Paris for educational purposes. In 1893-1900 he was a member of the Prussian Academy of Arts. He moved from landscapes to portraying people, then to devote himself to portraiture. In 1888-1900 he created more than a hundred portraits, 30 of which depicted Kaiser Wilhelm II . In 1894, Coner was awarded the big gold medal of the Great Berlin Art Exhibition .
In 1886, Max Coner married his own student Sophia Coner (1855-1929), known for her portraits of children. Coner's students also included Konrad Wiederhold , Richard Hübsch , Gallus Emil Genschel , German Struck , Clara Sievert and Paul Gerhart Fove .
Max Coner is buried in the 1st cemetery of the Jerusalem community of the new church in Berlin. Marble monument on his grave. The grave has not been preserved.
