The unit army is the organizational form of the land army of the old Russian unit princedom of the period of feudal fragmentation of the 12th-15th centuries [1] [2] . It was the main military force of the state [2] , as a rule, numbering several thousand people, in some cases - up to 10-20 thousand [1] [2] .
With the disappearance of the feudal fragmentation of the Russian state, the specific army ceased to exist [1] .
Organization
The skeleton and the most combat-ready part of the unit was the squad of the ruler of the princely inheritance (unit prince), which was almost completely equipped with representatives of the professional military class [1] [2] . During the war, rural and city militias joined the prince's squad, which made up the largest part of the unit ; often it included mercenary units ( Varangians , Polovtsy , Tatars and others), acting as separate units [1] [2] .
The mobilization base of the specific army was based on the decimal system (tens, hundreds, etc.), and the tactical one - on the regimental (see regimental series ) [1] [2] .
