Geography
Allegre is located at an altitude of 1040 meters above sea level , in the heart of the Vele massif, which has the largest number of volcanoes: about 500. Thanks to this, Allegre is famous for a variety of stones: red or green lavas , black basalt , granites .
Toponymy
It is believed that the toponym "Alegre" arose as the name of a place in Vela at an altitude of between 1000 and 1100 m, where there are four volcanoes: Mon-Bar, Mon-Bauri, Monshod and Ring. Most likely, the name comes from the Latin alacer = "fast".
Initially, the area was called Grazak, which was documented in 946 . [1] The name Alegre first appears in 1217 and was used along with Grazac for a long time, until over the years the last name finally disappeared in favor of Alegre.
Alegre was the name of a noble family who owned a overlooking the village of the same name.
