Biography
He was a film critic in a number of publications: “ Cinémonde ”, “ La Revue du cinéma ”, “ Observateur ”. In 1951, together with Andre Bazin , Eric Romer and created the magazine “ Cahiers du cinéma ”, becoming one of the chief editors of this publication. In 1956 he made his debut as a director (" Hello, Mr. Labruyer "). He starred in such directors as , Jacques Rivette , Alain Rob-Grieuil , Claude Lelouch , Chantal Ackerman , Francois Leterrier , Francis Giraud and others.
Jury member of the 16th Venice Film Festival , the 14th Berlin International Film Festival , the 8th Cannes Film Festival and the 29th Venice Film Festival .
He was married to actress .
Died of rupture of aneurysm.
