History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1751 . The municipality of Santa Ana was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1918 .
Geographical position
The city is located in the southern part of the department, on the right bank of the Mompos sleeve of the Magdalena River , approximately 213 kilometers southwest (SSW) from Santa Marta , the administrative center of the Magdalena department. The absolute height is 25 meters above sea level [1] .
The municipality of Santa Ana borders in the north with the territories of the municipalities of Ariguany , Nueva Granada and Plateau , in the north-west with the municipality of Santa Barbara de Pinto , in the southeast with the municipalities of San Cenon and Pihinho del Carmen , in the south-west - with the territory of the department of Bolivar , in the east - with the territory of the department of Cesar . The area of the municipality is 1479 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 25,938 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men accounted for 52.8% of the population of Santa Ana, women - respectively 47.2%. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 99.4% of the city's population; blacks , mulattoes and raisals - 0.5%; Indians - 0.1% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 79.2%.
Economics
The basis of the economy of Santa Ana is agricultural production .
59.1% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 27.6% are service enterprises, 13% are industrial enterprises, 0.3% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
