Album release
The next work of the Ukrainian trio "Carriages" was released a year after the release of the debut longplay "Wasserwaage". The EP consists of five tracks that musically continue the style of the band as defined on previous records, including aggressive parts of synthesizers and drums , as well as branded samples . The names of the tracks are decorated in the power of a witch house and are made up of Unicode characters [2] .
The presentation of the album took place on December 3 at the Kiev club Atlas [3] .
Album History
According to guitarist Valentin Panyuta, the album is experimental in nature, and the songs themselves can be described as “digital anxiety”. For example, the song “Dotted” is written about refugees, and it uses a sample from the latest album of the singer MIA , also dedicated to refugees. Drummer Stanislav Ivashchenko made his debut on this album as a full-fledged songwriter. According to the band’s frontman Anton Slepakov, songwriting began in late autumn last year, and when by the summer of 2015 there were five of them, it was decided to record, compose and publish them [4] .
Theme of songs
The composition “Startup Youth” was invented by the last of all songs of the mini-album. However, later it was she who became the title one and set a powerful tone for the entire album from the very beginning. At the end of the composition, drummer Stanislav first performed as a backing vocalist for the first time.
The sample for the song "Dotted Line" was first heard by Stanislav Ivashchenko on the train " Kharkov - Kiev ", immediately catching in it the theme of the relocation of people, thoughts and memories. This is also sung in the resulting composition.
The song “Staircase Effect” was jokingly called by the musicians “Poh-a Manifesto” (the so-called housing estates in Kiev - Poznyaki , Osokorki and Kharkiv massif ). For the first time in the group’s history, it plays solo on drums. Stylistically, the composition is a heavy trip-hop .
"Fire" was one of the first tracks of the mini-album. Initially, the composition consisted of a part of drums and samples, but later a guitar riff arose naturally . Because of the lyrics beginning with the phrase “The Seventies, Hunter Thompson ..”, the composition received the working title “ The Day Before .” After the text was already invented by Anton, colleagues asked to remove it as a whole, replacing it with keywords indicating epochs and time periods of the past [5] .
The song "Live" has become one of the saddest and most tragic on the album, but at the same time - bright and life-affirming. The key phrase is “Do not put off until tomorrow, for later. It simply may not be ” [4] .
