Satellite Telephony Operator

Satellite telephone operator - a telephone company that provides communication services through space radio communications . Satellite telephone subscribers have the opportunity to communicate with each other, as well as with other users of the global public telephone network . Subscribers of satellite telephone communications receive a standard telephone number from the special ranges of telephone zone 8 , indicating that they belong to satellite communications.

The following satellite telephone number prefixes are known:

  • +870
  • +871
  • +872
  • +873
  • +874
  • +881
  • +88216

In order to use the telephony services of a satellite operator, special equipment is needed - a satellite phone , VSAT and satellite modem or mobile satellite station .

Satellite telephone communications are in demand in those parts of the globe where other methods of telephone communications are impossible - in space, in orbit around the planet Earth (used by astronauts [1] [2] ), at the north and south poles , in the ocean , on islands , etc. P.

Depending on the telecom operator, the scope may be either the entire Earth , or individual regions of the world. This is due to the fact that either low-flying satellites are used , which, with a sufficient amount, cover the entire Earth, or satellites in a geostationary orbit , where they do not move relative to the Earth and do not “see” it completely.

There are several regional and international satellite service providers.

  • Intelsat is an international satellite communications organization, founded in 1964 as an interstate organization.
  • Eutelsat - a French satellite communications operator , ranks first in terms of turnover among satellite communications operators in the world. The largest shareholders of Eutelsat are British Telecom (17.5%), France Telecom (23.1%) and Deutsche Telekom (10.9%).
  • Iridium is a worldwide satellite telephone service provider. Coverage is 100% of the Earth’s surface, including both poles
  • Globalstar - one of the world's largest providers of mobile satellite communications and data transmission
  • Inmarsat is an international satellite communications company, founded in 1979, originally as an interstate organization.

  • Intersputnik is an international intergovernmental organization for the provision of satellite communications services . Satellite telephone services based on Intersputnik equipment are provided by Isatel [4]
