History
In 1871, a severe flood destroyed the previous building of the mausoleum, and in the same year, on the orders of the Shiite cleric Jafar Shushteri and under the direction of the architect Haji Molla Hossein, the current Mausoleum of the Prophet Daniel was built, and his tomb was placed in the center. [3]
Description
The mausoleum of the Prophet Daniel is located on the eastern bank of the Chavur River, opposite the French fortress of the Chateau de Morgan , and its unique dome adorns the ancient city of Shush like a gem.
This building is one of the religious mausoleums with a dome in the form of pineapple, which has two shells. This dome has 25 jagged tiers and two shells. Its height leaves about 20 meters, diameter - 5 meters. The dome of the Prophet Daniel was built during the Seljuk period, but it is obvious that its creator was inspired by the architecture of the ancient city of Choga-Zenbil ( Dur-Untash ). The outer shell performs symbolic functions, and it can be seen from afar, from almost anywhere in the city. Interestingly, the building and dome stylized as the Mausoleum of the Prophet Daniel.
On the west side, the Mausoleum of the Holy Prophet Daniel is decorated with Iranian and Islamic tiles. On the east side, on both sides of the entrance are two minarets 10 meters high. At the minaret you can see the engraved date 1330 according to the lunar hijrah and the name of the architect Haji Molla Hossein. On the other hand, you can see how local architects stylized the elements of the date palm trunk during the construction of the dome, since the date palm has a stepped trunk and is widespread in the south.
Every year, this mausoleum attracts many Muslim and non-Muslim pilgrims, as well as domestic and foreign tourists. [3]
