Timeline

Khryaschevatoye village is located in the Krasnodonsky district on the road from Izvarino (a village on the border between the Lugansk region and Russia) to Lugansk, eight kilometers from the regional center.

On August 13, 2014, the Ukrainian military began moving to Khryaschevatoye from the Lugansk airport. On the way, they were fired several times by the militias of the self-proclaimed LPR. They also broke the main gas pipeline. At about 5 p.m., the APU began to enter the village. An intense battle ensued, the Ukrainian military fell into a series of ambushes, were fired by mortars. Then the APU was taken into the air by drones that worked as spotters of fire. At night, the rebels began full-scale shelling of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with barreled artillery, Grads and mortars.

On August 14, 2014, the village was occupied by fighters of the Aydar battalion. The military began to evacuate the inhabitants of the village. Soon after, the rebels began shelling the village of artillery. On that day, the Ukrainian military was killed near Khryaschevaty during a combat mission: senior lieutenant, commander of the 1st guard company Philip Slobodenyuk, Alexander Kolotvin, soldier and radical Maidan Dmitry Dibrivny, Ivan Kachur. Eight rebel tanks attacked the Ukrainian unit, according to Ukrainian media. APU fighter Nikolai Beard with the call sign "Pit bull" machine-gun fire stopped the infantry attack of the Lugansk militia, which is why their tankers were at a loss, two tanks were knocked out, the rest went away.

Aidar battalion commander and deputy were injured. Vladimir Zyuz left the main group to cover. APU fighter Igor Filipchuk three times left the shelter and fired from an RPG, knocked out one of the tanks with a third shot and thereby defended his position, and the damaged tank fired back. After that, the rebels shot in a salvo from the Grad against the Ukrainian military.

On the morning of August 15, 2014, rebel snipers fired on the village, killing and injuring several Kiev soldiers. On the same day, on the highway between Khryaschevaty and Novosvetlovka, a convoy of vehicles with civilians who wanted to leave the combat zone was shot from APU mortars. Fifteen people were killed, six were injured and were taken to hospital. Also on this day, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine ordered to stop active hostilities in the Khryaschevaty region, and the Ukrainian military began to build a defense in the village.

On August 16, 2014, the village was shelled by artillery.

On August 17, 2014, the Armed Forces of Ukraine began seizing the village from militias, which would allow the Ukrainian military to close the ring around Lugansk.

Over time, the road to the Ukrainian military in Khryashchevaty was blocked by militia, near the APU ammunition and water came to an end, transportation was impossible, since the road was completely shot through. Of the two hundred who entered the village, about 60-70 people remained.

The Ukrainian military was forced to leave the village.

Consequences

After the fighting in the village there were many burned tanks and armored personnel carriers. Many houses were destroyed, about a year after the fighting, people in the village lived without electricity and water.
