Biography
At the Summer Olympics in Helsinki (1952) he played all three matches in the British national team, having won a bronze medal, as a striker.
From 1950 to 1989, he taught modern Greek at Oxford Trinity College, from 1951 to 1974. he combined the position of local treasurer with university lectures on modern Greek. From 1980 to 1989 He was the head of administration (Rhodes House) of the University of Oxford, responsible for the provision of scholarships of Rhodes. His memoirs, βThe Good Wind: Passed Inside and Outside the Scientific Community,β were published in 2007.
