History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1748 . The municipality of San Sebastian de Buenavista was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1957 .
Geographical position
The city is located in the southern part of the department, on the right of the Magdalena River , at a distance of approximately 218 kilometers southwest (SSW) from Santa Marta , the administrative center of the department of Magdalena. The absolute height is 24 meters above sea level [1] .
The municipality of San Sebastian de Buenavista borders in the north with the territory of the municipality of Pihigno del Carmen , in the northwest and west with the municipality of San Cenon , in the south and southeast with the municipality of Guamal , in the southwest with the territory of the department of Bolivar , in the northeast - with the territory of the department of Cesar . The area of the municipality is 421 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 17,483 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men accounted for 52.4% of the population of San Sebastian de Buenavista, women - 47.6%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 93.6% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raysals - 6.4% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 84.1%.
Economics
The basis of the economy of San Sebastian de Buenavista is agricultural production .
62.9% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 20.3% are service enterprises, 16.1% are industrial enterprises, 0.7% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
