Biography

Born November 8, 1929 in the village. Kozievo, Kursk region.

In 1952, he graduated from the Moscow Geological Prospecting Institute .

From 1953 to 1973 - researcher, head of the department of groundwater geochemistry of the All-Russian Research Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology.

In 1972, he defended his doctoral dissertation, topic: “Organic matter of groundwater (distribution patterns, formation conditions, oil prospecting value)”.

From 1973 to 2013, he headed the Department of Hydrogeology of the Moscow Polytechnic Institute, from 1979 to 1982, the dean of the Hydrogeological Faculty, and from 1988 to 1999, he was the vice-rector of the Moscow Polytechnic Institute for Academic Affairs.

He died on November 7, 2016.

Scientific activity

At VSEGINGEI he studied organic substances dissolved in groundwater in connection with the development of a hypothesis about the role of groundwater in the origin of oil.

He conducted regional hydrogeochemical studies in the North Caucasus, Georgia, Western Turkmenistan, Ferghana, the Bukhara-Khiva oil and gas region, Western Siberia, the Irkutsk amphitheater, and Kamchatka, the results of which revealed regional patterns of the content and distribution of organic substances in groundwater, their zonality, conditions and formation factors, oil and gas exploration value.

On the example of iodine, bromine, boron, lithium, uranium, the great importance of complex organoelemental compounds in groundwater, including fresh water used for drinking water, healing mineral and industrial iodine waters, was shown.

While working at the Russian State Humanitarian University, he lectured on “General Hydrogeology” and “Hydrogeochemistry”, conducted research on groundwater in Moscow and the Moscow Region.

He took an active part in the compilation of a collective 6-volume monograph, Fundamentals of Hydrogeology, Vol. 3, Hydrogeochemistry, where he authored sections on organic substances and the microflora of groundwater, on their hydrogeochemical role and on the gas composition of groundwater.

The author of more than 250 publications, including more than 30 monographs, textbooks and teaching aids.

Under his leadership, 20 master's theses were defended, including scientists from abroad.

He is the author of a patent for the invention, “A Method for Protecting the Atmosphere from Carbon Dioxide,” co-authored with A. V. Pankratov, 1992.

Member of the editorial boards of the journals "Geology", "Water Resources", "Proceedings of the universities. Geology and exploration. "

Corresponding member (1991), academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (1995), academician of the International Academy of Mineral Resources (1995).
