Distribution
The range of the genus covers Central and Southern Europe , the Mediterranean and Western Asia [2] [4] .
Biological Description
Representatives of the genus are low herbaceous annuals , less often perennials [2] .
Flowers - in false whorls located in the axils of the leaves. The calyx is curved, swollen at the base, narrowed at the pharynx, with 13 veins, two-lipped, hairy in the pharynx. The upper lip is short, wide, tridentate. The lower lip is with long ciliary lobes [2] . Corolla 5-membered, spineless, lilac. Corolla tube straight. Four fertile stamens . Anthers are intrusive . The gynoecium consists of two carpels , in which, as they mature , false partitions form, as a result of which the gynoecium becomes four-membered; upper ovary [2] . The fruit is coenobium : a fractional fruit consisting of four nut-shaped parts (erems).
Cultivation
Plants of this genus are quite frost-resistant, prefer poor, well- drained soil, bright sun. Do not tolerate damp. Reproduction - in the spring by seeds and cuttings [4] .
Views
Various authors indicate a different volume of species - up to 10 [4] species. Currently, it is usually not recognized by European authors, but is included in the genus Clinopodium ( odorant ). The publication Flora of the European Part of the USSR (1978) refers to 5–7 species. In the article by D.G. Melnikov (2016), the genera Acinos and Clinopodium are included in the genus Ziziphora ( Zizifora ).
Three names, Acinos aestivalis Kit. Acinos diffusus boenn. and Acinos multiflorus K. Koch ex Boiss. are included in The Plant List (2013) with an unresolved name status, that is, it cannot be said with respect to them whether they should be used as the names of independent species or whether they should be reduced to the synonymy of other taxa [5] .
The genus type is Acinos thymoides Moench , a synonym for Acinos arvensis ( Lam. ) Dandy .
Some authors consider species Acinos alpinus ( L. ) Moench (the Russian names for the Alpine Dushevka [2] or Acinos for the Alpine [4] ), Acinos arvensis Dandy [2] (Russian names for the field Dushevka [2] , and Shchebrushka field, Acinos field [4] ), Acinos rotundifolius Pers. [2] (Russian name - Round-headed Douche [2] ) and Acinos troodi ( Post ) Leblebici . The Plant List (2013) database includes these taxa in the genus Pasuchka ( Clinopodium ) and considers them to be the correct names, respectively, Clinopodium alpinum ( L. ) Kuntze [6] Clinopodium acinos ( L. ) Kuntze [7] , Clinopodium graveolens subsp. rotundifolium ( Pers. ) Govaerts [8] and Clinopodium troodi ( Post ) Govaerts [9] .
