Gordons Bay [1] or Hordonsby ( English Gordon's Bay , African. Gordonsbaai ) is a city in the south-west of the Republic of South Africa , in the territory of the Western Cape . It is part of the Cape Town urban district . Climatic resort on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean , a beach holiday center.

Content
History
The settlement from which the city later arose was originally called Fish Hook . Later it was renamed in honor of the Dutch naval officer and researcher of Scottish descent Robert Gordon (1743-1795) [2] . In 1902, Gordons Bay received the status of a rural community, and in 1961 - the status of a municipality .
Geographical position
The city is located in the southwestern part of the province, on the northeastern shore of Falls Bay, approximately 29 kilometers east-southeast (ESE) from Cape Town , the provincial capital. The absolute height is 252 meters above sea level [3] .
Climate
The climate of the city is subtropical Mediterranean . The average annual rainfall is 769 mm. Most rainfall occurs between April and October . The average maximum air temperature varies from 15.3 ° C (in July) to 24.7 ° C (in February). The coldest month of the year is July . The average minimum night temperature for this month is 6.9 ° C [4] .
Population
According to the 2001 official census , the population was 2751, of which 47.98% were men and 52.02% were women. In racial terms, whites made up 94.11% of the city's population, color - 4.25%; Asians (including Indians ) - 0.98%; blacks - 0.65%. The most common languages among the townspeople were: Afrikaans (60.67%) and English (37.55%) [5] .
According to data obtained during the official census of 2011, 16,776 people lived in Gordons Bay, of which men made up 49.56% and women, respectively, 50.44%. In racial terms, whites made up 65.56% of the population of the city; color - 19.85%; blacks - 10.9%; Asians (including Indians) - 1.51%; representatives of other races - 2.18%. The most common languages among city residents were: English (82.98%) and Afrikaans (12.64%) [6] .

Through the city passes the national highway N2.
