History

The settlement from which the city later arose was originally called Fish Hook . Later it was renamed in honor of the Dutch naval officer and researcher of Scottish descent Robert Gordon (1743-1795) [2] . In 1902, Gordons Bay received the status of a rural community, and in 1961 - the status of a municipality .

Geographical position

The city is located in the southwestern part of the province, on the northeastern shore of Falls Bay, approximately 29 kilometers east-southeast (ESE) from Cape Town , the provincial capital. The absolute height is 252 meters above sea ​​level [3] .

The climate of the city is subtropical Mediterranean . The average annual rainfall is 769 mm. Most rainfall occurs between April and October .
