Description
Leonid Andreev lived in the house until 1891. After graduating from the Oryol gymnasium, he went to Petersburg . In 1895, the writer’s mother sold the house and moved to Moscow . L. Andreev repeatedly came to his homeland and was in the house where he spent his childhood and youth. The description of the house and the garden is preserved in the works and letters of the writer [1] .
The ten-room house was built by the father of the writer Nikolai Ivanovich Andreev in 1876. He bought this place in 1874 and built it on his own project. Wooden house with a front porch, decorated with carvings, on the facade - four windows. The internal layout has changed a little, but the house has hardly been rebuilt at all. A stone cellar and a terrace overlooking the garden have been preserved. The house is painted green, as during the life of the writer. In 1960, a memorial plaque was installed with the inscription: "The childhood of the famous Russian writer Leonid Nikolaevich Andreev passed in this house." August 21, 1991, on the day of the 120th anniversary of Leonid Andreev, a museum was opened in the house on 2nd Pushkarnaya. The exposition is dedicated to the childhood and youth of the writer. Based on the typological furniture and personal belongings of the Andreevs of later times, the interior of that old residential building was recreated in three exhibition rooms. The father’s office and mother’s room are highlighted. The piano of the Ernst Kapst company from the Oryol house has been preserved. The Andreev House Museum is a branch of the Oryol United State Literary Museum of I. S. Turgenev [1] [2] [3] .
