Biography
The son of the famous imperial general Charles de Lannoy , prince di Sulmon, and Francoise d'Antremont de Montbel.
Senor de Sanzey, in 1530 became Count of Venafro.
Following the example of his father, he joined the army of Charles V. He commanded the Spanish cavalry in the Kingdom of Naples . Together with the Duke of Alba and Joachen de Ri participated in the siege of Tunisia and La Goletta in 1535, and received a "notable wound" [1] during the siege of Algeria in 1541.
In 1544, commanding the Neapolitan cavalry in the units of Prince Salerno , he defeated the troops of General Strozzi in the Battle of Cherisol, which the Imperials lost.
In 1546-1547 he commanded the light Spanish and Italian cavalry in the Schmalkalden war , and distinguished himself in the battle of Mülberg .
In 1546, at the chapter in Utrecht, he was knighted by the Order of the Golden Fleece .
